Added value through system integration: the 10 automation highlights

Beckhoff is exhibiting the complete tool chain of PC-based control technology for optimised woodworking machines at Ligna 2019 in Hanover. The aim: simple controllability of all functions though simplified engineering. In addition to that there will be numerous new highlights, such as system-integrated image processing via TwinCAT Vision. At the same time Beckhoff will demonstrate how competitive advantages can be directly achieved through real-time machine learning with TwinCAT 3.

TwinCAT Vision
As the eye of the robot, TwinCAT Vision integrates all the image processing applications into the PC-based control platform: from detection, measurement and identification through to pick-and-place and quality checking. Engineering takes place directly in the PLC. The open control system allows the connection of freely selectable linescan and area-scan cameras with support for the GigEVision standard.

TwinCAT Speech enables the multilingual input and output of queries or information and makes interaction with the automation system more natural through the use of speech. Even without an operating terminal, the operator or maintenance staff can thus query how changed settings affect the present control or simulation program.

TwinCAT Machine Learning: scalable, open and in real-time

One of the new items that Beckhoff is presenting at the Ligna is TwinCAT 3 Machine Learning – a system-integrated solution for machine learning (ML). The execution of ML models is thereby implemented clock-synchronised in real-time. In this way new possibilities and optimisation potentials are tapped for automation technology, for example in the areas of predictive and prescriptive maintenance, anomaly detection, collaborative robots, automated quality checking and machine optimisation.

Creating added value: with IoT and data analytics

TwinCAT facilitates implementation of the route from data acquisition in the field to analysis via communication and historisation. The IoT and data analytics scenarios can be integrated directly into existing tool landscapes and IT infrastructures. Data acquisition takes place using sensors with a direct connection to the controller; data exchange with the cloud takes place using standard protocols. Costs, effort and training time are significantly reduced.

EtherCAT G: ultimate I/O speed up to 10,000 Mbit/s

Beckhoff presents EtherCAT G for use in high-performance machines and highly complex applications. As a continuation of the EtherCAT success principle, speeds of 1 Gbit/s or 10 Gbit/s are now available. The data transfer rate of 100 Mbit/s currently used by EtherCAT can thus be increased by a factor of 100. Both power steps can be regarded as system-compliant supplements to the EtherCAT technology. The branch concept enables the integration of 100 Mbit/s EtherCAT segments and reduces the lead times in large networks through the parallel processing of the segments.

The new generation of Beckhoff safety controllers is based consistently on modularity and scalability. The intelligence of the entire safety application can be distributed via the TwinSAFE Logic-capable, safety-relevant I/O modules. Even more efficient modularisation and more flexible adaptability to existing system requirements are thus possible.

AMP8000: taps new savings potentials

The AMP8000 servomotor with directly integrated servo drive paves the way for the minimisation of the control cabinet. The performance values of the motor remain unchanged with a virtually identical size. Reduction to a single coupling module supplying several servomotors via a single cable saves material, space, costs and mounting effort.

C60xx: high-end computing power in an ultra-compact design

The Industrial PC series that started with the C6015 has proven itself through its low space requirement, universal usability and flexible mounting. The C6017 offers additional interfaces and an integrated UPS. The C6030 was developed for applications with the highest power requirements. A new item being presented at the Ligna by Beckhoff is the C6032, which offers additional interfaces in comparison with the C6030.

CX7000: the new entry-level class with 400 MHz processor

With the CX7000 Embedded PC the convenient and powerful world of TwinCAT 3 is now also available for small controllers. The scalability of PC-based control technology from Beckhoff – from the mini PLC through to the many-core Industrial PC – is thus increased still further. A modern 400 MHz processor and integrated, configurable I/Os make for an optimum price-performance ratio.
